To act as engagement and digital consultants for Wyre Council as part of the national Historic High Streets Heritage Action Zone programme, funded by Historic England, developing a new approach to community storytelling across Fleetwood, Cleveleys and Garstang.

The brief was ambitious and multi-layered: revitalise town centres, reconnect local people with their heritage, develop skills, support economic and social regeneration, and create a scalable and replicable framework for place-based digital storytelling.

Over eighteen months we worked closely with a wide network of local organisations, groups and individuals, Fleetwood Museum, the local Market, Artist Studios and Library, memory groups, Men's Shed, Blackpool Sixth Form College, local MP Cat Smith, Fisherman’s Mission, and many more, co-creating a programme of physical-digital heritage experiences that gave local people direct authorship over how their stories were told.

The programme produced an extraordinary range of outputs: arts-based storytelling and object histories; a Snakes & Ladders-style interactive game mat; a How to Become a Producer summer school for sixth form students; an AR Festive Trail; the expanded Cleveleys AR Art Trail; and the Garstang community heritage trail.

All experiences were published on our own Ci platform.

The most significant thing this project demonstrated is also the simplest: when local people are given the tools, the time and the creative authority to shape how their places are represented, they produce stories that no external team could have found or invented.

Co-creation is not just an ethical principle in projects like this, it is a methodology that produces better content, builds lasting community capacity and creates the kind of local ownership that keeps experiences alive and growing long after the project period ends.
